Key objectives

The objective of the symposium is to bring together researchers, academics, professionals and ICT visionaries on an interactive platform where they could explore the future of ICT in learning, assessments, self-reflection and professional development activities in schools across Pakistan. In particular, we aim to identify how the public and private sectors can contribute for the schools of tomorrow. In this regard, we shall also be showcasing some innovative learning applications and research ideas that can potentially steer the future of ICT in Education.

Speaker's Profiles

Dr. Haroona Jatoi

Advisor to Ministry of Education, Pakistan

Dr. Haroona Jatoi lives in Islamabad, where she is the senior policymaker in the Ministry of Education for the government of Pakistan.She has accumulated accolades and advanced degrees in education, policy, and comparative analysis at the University of Punjab and Harvard University. Jatoi is fluent in Urdu, Sindhi, Saraiki, Punjabi, and English. When she is not developing policy or writing articles for publication on issues of education in Pakistan, Dr. Jatoi is an avid reader.

Dr. Shaista Shirazi (Tara)

Lecturer in Education (School of Interdisciplinary Studies), University of Glasgow, UK

She has worked as a science teacher and lecturer in secondary schools and colleges for many years, specialising in biology and physics. She also spent a number of years with Canterbury Christ Church University and University of Leeds training science teachers on various post-graduate programmes. After completing her PhD from Leeds, she trained Teach First graduates for two years before joining the School of Interdisciplinary Studies as a lecturer.

She is the programme convenor for the MSc Enhanced Practice in Education programme for professionals who want to develop their professional leadership and research skills.

Ms. Sarwat Alam

Program Development & Educational Technologies Professional

She led the Professional Development work for Pre-Service Teacher Education Program (2009-2011) and Blended Learning initiative for the USAID Teacher Education Project (2012-2013). Her core work included curriculum and instructional design development, professional development of teacher-ed faculty and development of Blended Learning Modules (BLMs) to support teacher education and curriculum implementation. BLM titles include Collaborative Learning, Assessment, Teaching Literacy and Science.

Ms. Umbreen Arif

Senior Education Specialist, The World Bank, Islamabad, Pakistan

She is working as Senior Education Specialist at The World Bank, Islamabad. She has over 18 years of experience of policy advice, technical support and program implementation in the Education Sector. She has extensive experience of planning and conducting assessment and evaluation of programs. She has good understanding of educational issues at the policy and grass-root level and her special areas of interests are early childhood and basic education, teacher management and governance in education. She has extensive experience of designing and implementing training programs and developing training materials for education personnel. She has experience of designing and implementing programs in Conflict and Emergency situations, including disaster need assessments and analysis.

Mr. Talhah Munir Khan

Country Manager at Knowledge Platform, Pakistan

Mr. Talhah is working at Knowledge Platform since November 2001 and where he leads the technology team. Talhah also manages the Pakistan operations of the business. Talhah has extensive experience in building effective teams, leading engineering operations, talent acquisition, management and engagement, strategic thinking and alignment, program management, creating customer-focused culture, ensuring cross functional collaboration and use of performance support to drive delivery excellence.

Having focused on learning solutions for the past fifteen years, he has deep knowledge of heterogeneous e-learning standards and numerous learning technology systems. He has been involved in development of scalable learning solutions for corporate training and K-12 education. He has been managing key phases of solution implementation from learning needs analysis to design, development, deployment, training, support, monitoring and evaluation.

Talhah is currently on the board of Pakistan Software Houses Association (P@SHA) and has also served as Secretary General in the past. He is also member of the educational workgroup created by National ICT R&D Fund, Ministry of Information Technology Pakistan.
