IT world now fairly understands the buzz world of “cloud” in the IT enterprise ecosystem but professionals need to understand this further in its entirety to align IT strategy roadmap accordingly. Within an enterprise; one need a data center with over provisioned compute, storage, networking, different software (OS, Middleware, Integration, and Security), different industry solutions (CRM, ERP, Banking, Billing, Regulatory suites etc), enterprise monitoring tools, complete ecosystem for Power and cooling. And human resources to manage and operate it in the form of multi vendor services to ensure smooth operations to meet business demands.
Cloud model offers a new approach of computing provisioned on-demand over the internet where one only need to pay for what they use and for the time they are using it with elastic scalability and high availability. This cut downs capital investments and allow companies to invest time on new innovations rather spending all energies and resources on managing on-premise solutions. This new innovative models provides implicit scalability over compute, storage and all resources when there is stress asking for more resources.
We will see industry offerings and trends on cloud solutions namely big names like Oracle, Amazon, Soft Layer over Infrastructure as a service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS) and Software as a Service (SaaS) in public clouds portfolio as well as trends on private cloud to hybrid cloud offerings.
